Welcome to the latest marvel in home golf installations – The Lion's Den. When our client approached us with the idea of transforming a corner of their newly built barn into a multifunctional golf and entertainment space, we were thrilled. The challenge was set: convert an area that consisted only of studs into a state-of-the-art golfing haven that doubles as a theater and gaming room.
The Vision
Our client had a clear vision for The Lion's Den. They wanted a spacious area dedicated to not just golf, but also movies and video games. The requirements were ambitious: two TVs for watching sports while hitting balls into the main impact screen, the ability to control which screens displayed golf, sports, or movies, and a seamless user experience for turning the system on and off.
The Setup
Starting from scratch, we took on the responsibility of everything from ensuring the room was well insulated to wiring to the final design touches. Here’s a closer look at the key features we implemented:
- Fore!: We obviously went with Foresight's GCHawk for this setup. The main reason being ... well, it's Foresight and they make the best launch monitor on the market. Our client also wanted the option to play other sports in the space such as soccer.
- Swing Analysis: We integrated 4 cameras for swing analysis using Swing Catalyst, offering our client a professional-grade tool for improving their game.
- Dual TVs: We installed two 65" OLED TV's, perfect for keeping up with the latest sports action while practicing swings. These were each mounted to the left and right side of the space to allow any guest to watch sports while playing a round.
- Screen Control: The setup includes an intuitive control system allowing the client to switch between viewing golf simulations, sports, or movies with ease. We used an 8-port HDBaseT matrix with receivers at each of the TV's and projector. We connected all of our inputs into the matrix (PC, 2x Firesticks, XBox) which allows the client to select which outputs each input plays to. You can have the golf sim project on the screen while watching the Masters on both TVs.
- Audio Excellence: To create an immersive experience, we installed a 7.2 surround sound system with a high-quality receiver, ensuring top-notch audio whether playing golf or watching a film. The receiver was also connected to the matrix so you can choose which input the sound comes from.
- Perfect Lighting: We designed lighting that is ideal for both golf simulation and movie ambiance, providing the right mood and visibility at all times.
- Comprehensive Execution: Our team handled every aspect, from the initial insulation to the intricate wiring and the final aesthetic touches that make the space truly unique.
The Transformation
The transformation was remarkable. From an empty, unfinished space, we created The Lion's Den, a versatile and luxurious environment tailored to our client's specifications. The result is a room where they can practice golf, watch their favorite sports, enjoy movies, and play video games – all within the comfort of their own barn.
